I am a creature of habit like everyone else, I guess. It did not occur to me until just now that I do have a certain routine, my rut that I keep on trodding on every day with little or no fail. Upon waking up, I like to have my coffee before anything else. Why is this? This could be traced to a day when I woke up, made my way to my computer, powered it up, navigated to my workspace and typed "del *.*" which promptly erased everything before I realized what I had done. My intention was to type "dir *.*" as I was wont to do which might be a reasonable thing to do when you are sleepy and do not know what to do yet.
Since then, I recognized the power of sleep and how one cannot try to get the better of it without being fully awake. Hence, the coffee first thing in the morning. I next check my stats, various ones that tell me if my efforts are succeeding or even just making sense at all. This brings me to my mails. There is really nothing important in my mails but I check them anyway, habit again. In fact, I check my mails a few other times during the day.
Then I do the most heavy work, posting to my websites. This typically takes a few hours and I get tired, irritable and generally empty of ideas. This particular activity, while obviously important, is just too time-consuming without becoming interesting or ego-gratifying and the only challenge seems to be to get the the end of it. It is pure drudgery and I would rather be doing something else than this but I do not know what to replace it with. If I could find something that works then I would drop this in a heartbeat.

There must be more to life than merely surviving. Just surviving is boring and there must be more that a man can do to make life a little more meaningful, a little more livable.
